Random Update

Journal Entry: Thu Nov 12, 2009, 6:50 PM
Stuff

Nothing new happening really... just wanted to take advantage of the journal skins thing lol. Hoping to look at an apartment if my mom ever gets around to talking to me about it... Painted the tiniest bit more, but it's hard to find time to. Maybe I'd have time to if I moved out lol. And also to take more classes and get a move on graduating. I need to make a to-do list. Was gonna take judo but my friend forced me into great lakes sailing, wtf lol. I think I get to go see Fantastic Mr. Fox tomorrow and ask my boyfriend to read the book to me. I can read but I like when he does lol

WIP

My first oil painting! No title yet, if it gets ever gets one. It's a chick standing in some water. It was supposed to be late afternoon in the painting but I was reading Duma Key and went out on a limb and am making a crazy sunset instead. I hope it comes out okay. Also one other thing but it's secret... I'l show ya'll when I get it done (if I do it)

Hey, I shipped the painting. It should arrive by the end of the week. Check your email for tracking number.

P.S. It's still drying. It might appear dry to the touch, but it'll continue to dry for perhaps 6 months to a year. So, unwrap it as soon as possible, because it needs oxygen to dry.

Yeah, it is a long time, but that's the norm for oil. For the most part, they are dry to the touch after about 2 - 4 weeks (at which point, the surface has dried sufficiently enough to enable another layer of paint). But, for an oil painting to be completely dried, you have to wait 6 - 12 months (after which point it is safe to varnish if desired). An oil painting contracts as it dries, so premature varnishing would result in undesired wrinkles on the surface of the painting. Then again, this painting is on guessoboard, not canvas, so I really donno what that means in terms of contraction. At any rate, I incorporate damar varnish in my glaze recipe, so, it's unlikely that the painting will ever need to be varnished.

Oh, one more thing. I put hardware on it so that it's ready to hang unframed. But, if you should choose to frame, then I'd recommend an antique gold molded frame... the colours work well for that. I put it in one that I use for exhibits and it was very nice.

hmm... okay, but you'd have to send them while I'm at school. I do well with word instruction though too so if we never get a chance we might have to fall back on that lol.
